About the Position

Rutgers Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science programs is seeking Program Mentors for the Summer Institute 2022. The Summer Institute is a vital part of the Rutgers Upward Bound & Upward Bound Math-Science Pre-College experience. It seeks to provide high-school scholars with an immersion experience of college life. The Summer Institute is an intensive, six-week program that will take place Sunday, June 26, 2022 through Friday, August 5, 2022. The Summer Institute aims to create a college-like academic environment that encourages participants to develop autonomy, academic responsibility, and expand their knowledge of their own scholastic competencies in preparation for college.

The Program Mentor position is available with flexible shifts; mornings/afternoons and afternoon/evenings. The Program Mentor position is responsible with daytime, evening, and/or weekend responsibilities. Program Mentors will participate in a combination of the following: Duty, Programming, Monitoring Sessions, Keeping Track of Daily Attendance, Drop-In Tutoring, Chaperoning Special Trips, Peer Mentorship, Workshop Facilitation, Crisis Response, and other duties as assigned.

Selection Process
  • All advanced applicants must attend one 60-minute group interview session on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. There are no exceptions.
    • Session I: 5:00PM-6:00PM
    • Session II: 6:00PM-7:00PM
    • Session III: 7:00PM-8:00PM
  • If advanced, candidates will undergo a 30-minute individual interview on Week of February 28th. There are no exceptions.
  • Tentative hiring decisions will be made March 21, 2022. Final Hiring Decisions will be made May of 2022. If selected, position starts Sunday, June 26, 2022 to Friday, August 5, 2022 and must attend a mandatory summer training prior to starting date on Sunday, June 19, 2022 to Friday, June 24, 2022.

The Summer Program Mentor Position requires a ~40-hour weekly commitment. This includes daytime, evening commitments and some weekends.
