The mission of MonmouthCares is "To facilitate positive change so that children with emotional and behavioral challenges, along with their families, have the greatest opportunity to live, thrive, and develop in their communities.These youth may also have intellectual/developmental, substance abuse, and/or physical health challenges."

The purpose of MonmouthCares is to enable families to manage the multiple needs in their lives, which have been complicated by the serious mental and/or emotional challenges of their children. There may also be intellectual and/or developmental and/or substance use challenges. Through collaborative, individualized planning, we use the family's strengths to build strategies which will both stabilize their functioning and promote independence and participation in their communities. We aim to enable families and guardians to keep their children at home, in school and out of trouble.

Our goal for the families we serve is to help them manage their on-going needs independently, using the strategies, supports and services from their own communities. Our short-term business goal is to have adequate staffing and technology infrastructure to support execution of our mission. Our long-term business goal is to effectively advocate for children and families in NJ in suporting their needs in behavioral/mental health, intellectual development, and substance use disorders.

Position Information

Description of Position:
Shadow the Executive Director of a $13 million dollar organization to see first hand what it takes to be a leader in the social services/youth mental health sector. Attend a Board of Trustees meeting and debrief with the Executive Director to understand the governance model of not-for-profits. Attend training and leadership team meetings to understand the organizational systems that keep our work effective. Research the Wraparound model of care, recognized nationally. Examine strategic plan goals and progress.
Pre-requisites or Requirements:
We are interested in Juniors and Seniors. Additionally, it would be most helpful if the student had an interest in non-profit management, organizational development, human resources, or youth and family services. Excellent majors would be: social work, psychology, sociology, planning and public policy.
