The mission of Rutgers University Strategic Sourcing is to facilitate the acquisition of goods and services, through a consistent and comprehensive methodology, delivering total value to the business units and schools throughout the university, with a focus on continuous improvement.

In collaboration with the business units and schools, we contract with suppliers who provide assurance of supply, quality, customer service, innovation, competitive cost, and compliance to meet or exceed university requirements. Throughout the life of the contract, we measure and evaluate supplier performance and develop improvement plans as needed to mitigate risk. These contracts and sourcing strategies are refreshed on a regular basis.

Position Information

Description of Position:
Shadow the Rutgers Strategic Sourcing team, which is comprised of sourcing managers and analysts in the categories of Information Technology, Research and Health, Business and Professional Services, and Facilities and Athletics. Meetings will be both with internal procurement colleagues, various Rutgers University business stakeholders, and external suppliers who provide goods and services to Rutgers.

As a brief overview, Strategic Sourcing utilizes a rigorous sourcing methodology that involves a five-step process:
1. Profile the buy (analyze spend, identify stakeholder)
2. Profile the market (supplier)
3. Develop the sourcing strategy based on business
requirements
4. Execute the strategy (i.e., conduct negotiation/bid, execute contract)
5. Manage contract and supplier performance
Pre-requisites or Requirements:
The position would be most suited for a student interested in Supply Chain and at-least the Business School curriculum (Accounting, Business Analytics and Information Technology, Finance, Leadership and Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management)
