The RLCs & MSLC provide free academic support to students both in and out of the classroom. We also provide resources for academic support, create student leadership opportunities, and provide support to faculty so they can create an optimal student learning experience.

In this workshop, peer leaders will be introduced to three studies that used categorization tasks to study student learning in biology, chemistry, and physics. Participants will brainstorm how the findings of these studies apply to their roles as peer leaders, discuss the connection between categorization tasks and Bloom’s Taxonomy, and develop activities to use with students in a tutoring or study group session.

Peer leaders will practice with peers in communicating thoughts and ideas in a concise, effective manner, which can then be translated to their roles working with other students.

Communicating Your Peer Leader Position to Potential Employers (Peer Leaders Only) 12/7/2017 1:40 PM - 3:00 PM Busch Learning Center, Large Study Group Room (SERC 104) 12/7/2017
In this workshop, peer leaders will learn to effectively and professionally communicate what they do in their positions on their resumes, in cover letters, and in phone or in-person interviews. This workshop will include brainstorming relevant experiences, critiquing example descriptions, writing or revising the peer leader’s own resume/cover letter, and a mock interview component. Participants must bring two copies of their resume to the session. (If you do not yet have a resume document, please draft one before attending so that you can make the most of this session.) Participants are welcome to bring an example cover letter or a cover letter he/she has previously submitted that includes a description of his/her work as a peer leader. Participants are welcome to bring personal statements (for medical school or graduate school) that include a description of their work as peer leaders.
