Aresty Summer Science
Insecticide resistance in bed bugs
Project Summary
In recent years, bed bugs emerged as a common urban pest which causes significant discomfort and economic loss to affected people. Controlling bed bugs is very difficult, partly due to their high levels of resistance to insecticides. We are interested in evaluating the resistance profiles of field bed bug populations and investigating alternative low risk chemical control methods. The long-term goal is to develop safer and more effective methods to eliminate bed bug populations. The student researcher will work closely with a post-doctoral researcher and an associate professor, learn skills of insecticide bioassay, experimental design, live bed bug maintenance, and statistical analysis.
