Development of microbial consortia for biosynthesis of value-added molecules
Project Summary
Engineering microorganisms is a robust method for production of a wide range of molecules with high industrial values. In this project, we will explore the opportunity of utilizing mixtures of different microorganisms, or microbial consortia, to biosynthesize the product of our interest. This novel approach will be applied towards biosynthesis of a select of compounds. Genetic engineering and microbial cultivation are two major components of this research. Step-wise development of the microbial consortia will enable us to create a powerful biosynthetic system to achieve high efficiency production of target molecules that can be hardly achieved other wise.
Strong interest in microbiology is needed.
