LSAMP SPRE
Graphene moisture and gas sensor
Project Summary
The goal of the project is to fabricate and test a humidity and gas sensor based on the response of single layer graphene to the adsorption of different molecules. The students will learn to synthesize graphene using chemical vapor deposition and then transfer the graphene layers onto a Si wafer capped with a SiO2 layer. They will proceed to fabricate a device to demonstrate humidity and gas sensing by using the change of the electrical resistance in response to various molecules. Finally the students will investigate the selectivity of the sensor towards the most common constituents in air, water vapor (H2O), nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), and argon (Ar) as well as common toxic molecules.
