Addiction: opioid suppression of immune function in rats
Project Summary
In rat models of drug addiction, we study suppression of the immune system, both systemically and in the brain, and measures of behavior in conjunction with the animal's emotional state, measured via ultrasonic vocalizations that rats emit. Because of the wide range of immunomodulatory effects of opioids and the ongoing opioid epidemic, it is imperative to have a better understanding of the immunosuppressive effects of opioid abuse.
