Aresty Summer Science
Understanding the basis of coral resilience to fluctuating environmental conditions
Project Summary
The student will work with our team that includes researchers at Rutgers with collaborators from Australia, Micronesia, Hawaii, and the Dominican Republic to analyze omics data that address the coral stress response, reproduction, and population structure. The project is aimed at identifying the genetic 'toolkit' used by corals to deal with climate change (e.g., lowered pH and increased temperatures), elucidating its evolution, and distribution across coral lineages. The work involves genomics, metabolic, bioinformatics, and biological manipulation of corals. The work will lead to publications and training in genomic (and other omics) methods as well as knowledge about coral conservation biology.
