Navigating AI Tools for Personalized Learning in Economics and Business Education
Project Summary
"Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming education by offering new ways to support student learning and success. This project will examine how AI tools can enhance academic performance, engagement, and overall well-being in undergraduate Economics and Business courses. Students will work with me to analyze how AI-based tools, such as personalized learning platforms, AI chatbots, and feedback systems—can create individualized learning pathways. These tools help educators deliver timely support, identify students who may be struggling, and tailor instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
The project will use real course data from undergraduate economics classes. Students will conduct a simple correlation analysis to study the relationship between assignments, learning tasks, and student performance. This analysis will help identify early indicators of students at risk of falling behind. Based on these insights, the project will explore the impact of targeted AI-supported interventions. Specifically, students will review how a course-specific AI chatbot (AI agent) was used to provide personalized guidance and how this affected students’ overall course grades. The project will evaluate whether personalized learning tools improved outcomes for at-risk students and assess their potential for broader use across disciplines and class sizes.
By the end of the project, students will develop:
A data-driven understanding of AI’s role in personalized learning
Evidence-based recommendations for implementing AI tools in higher education
A foundation for future research on AI-enhanced student success
This project demonstrates the practical value of AI in education and offers an opportunity to contribute meaningful insights to a growing field of study."
